Kanye West finds himself entangled in yet another legal battle, this time over alleged uncleared samples on his 2021 album, Donda.

According to a report from Billboard, a case was filed in Los Angeles federal court on Wednesday (July 17), accusing Ye of incorporating elements from a song called “MSD PT2” into Donda tracks “Hurricane” and “Moon,” despite being denied permission.

The lawsuit contends that this issue goes beyond mere financial compensation. It underscores the importance of intellectual property rights, emphasizing that creators have the right to determine how their work is exploited and should be protected from shameless infringement.

In a bold move, Kanye credited the four creators of “MSD PT2” as songwriters, further fueling the legal dispute.

However, the lawsuit was not initiated by the artists themselves. Instead, a company called Artist Revenue Advocates (ARA), which holds the copyrights to “MSD PT2,” filed the case. The four writers turned to ARA after struggling for nearly three years to collect their fair share of proceeds from the contested songs.

Donda featured an array of star-studded collaborations, but during its creation, Kanye threatened to remove several artists from the project, including JAY-Z.

Last month, a leaked mini-documentary shed light on Kanye’s unconventional creative process. The five-minute film showcased behind-the-scenes moments, capturing Ye’s emotional journey as he transformed Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium into a makeshift recording studio. The documentary revealed glimpses of Ye’s reflections on his late mother, Donda West, as well as interactions with fellow artists like Pusha T, Playboi Carti, Fivio Foreign, Rick Rubin, and Mike Dean.

One particularly memorable scene featured Kanye on a phone call inside a locker room, asserting that anyone absent from his listening party would be excluded from the album – even JAY-Z.

As the legal battle unfolds, the music world watches closely, wondering how these conversations will shape the future of Donda and its controversial samples.
