Kevin Costner's ex-wife Christine Baumgartner has opened up about her feelings on seeing her former husband dating singer Jewel, just three months after their divorce was finalized.

The 49-year-old model told a close friend that she is 'not surprised' that the Yellowstone star has moved on so quickly, but she is relieved that he chose someone who is 'down to earth' and not a 'gold digger'.

Baumgartner, who shares three children with Costner, said it was 'bittersweet' to see him with Jewel, but she is happy for him as long as he is respectful of their family.

'It's bittersweet to see Kevin with someone new, but I'm happy for him if he's happy,' Baumgartner told her friend, according to DailyMail.com.

'He didn't need to make it so obvious by wrapping his arms around her, though. That was a bit much.'

Costner, 68, and Jewel, 49, were spotted getting cozy on Richard Branson's Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands last week, sparking rumors of a romance.

The pair have been friends for years and have a mutual passion for music and the cowboy lifestyle.

Baumgartner said she never expected Costner and Jewel to date, but she admitted that they make sense as a couple.

'They're both into music, into that cowboy thing. What's not to like about her? At least Jewel is a down to earth person and has her own thing going on,' she said.

'She has a son of her own, she has her own life and isn't a gold digger. So that's a relief.'

Baumgartner said the last thing she wanted was for some 'fame-seeking bimbo' to come along and play mom to their three children, Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 11.

She said she hopes that Costner will be careful about introducing Jewel to their kids and not rush into anything serious.

'I hope he's smart about this and doesn't bring her around the kids too soon. They've been through enough with the divorce and they need time to adjust,' she said.

'I don't want them to get attached to someone who might not stick around. They need stability and consistency.'

Baumgartner and Costner ended their 19-year marriage in September, after a bitter legal battle that lasted for months.

The couple had been living apart since May, when Baumgartner filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

Costner was reportedly blindsided by the split and tried to save the marriage, but Baumgartner was adamant about moving on.

The divorce was settled out of court, with the terms kept confidential.

Costner and Baumgartner met in 1998 at a golf tournament and married in 2004 at his ranch in Aspen, Colorado.

They had three children together, while Costner also has four children from previous relationships.

Costner is best known for his roles in movies such as Dances with Wolves, The Bodyguard, and Field of Dreams.

He currently stars in the hit TV series Yellowstone, where he plays a rancher who fights to protect his land from developers and rivals.

Jewel is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the 1990s with hits such as Who Will Save Your Soul, You Were Meant for Me, and Foolish Games.

She has also ventured into acting, writing, and philanthropy.

She has a son, Kase, 10, with her ex-husband Ty Murray, a rodeo champion whom she divorced in 2014.
