Riley Keough, the actress and model who is the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, was seen out and about in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 8, 2024. She was accompanied by her husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, a stuntman and actor. The couple looked casual and relaxed as they walked hand in hand and smiled for the cameras.
Keough’s outing came days after she fired back at a U.K. bank that is demanding her to pay a $1.6 million loan that her late mother, Lisa-Marie Presley, took out in 2010. Presley, who was the only child of Elvis Presley, died of a cardiac arrest in January 2023 at the age of 54. She had purchased Coes Hall, an estate in Rotherfield, England, with a loan from Barclays Bank. The bank claims that Presley personally guaranteed the repayment of the loan and is now seeking to collect the outstanding balance from her estate.
Keough, who is the sole trustee of her mother’s estate, has challenged the bank’s request in court, arguing that she is not liable for the debt due to a statute of limitations. She also alleged that her mother only guaranteed the interest payments of the loan between 2010 and 2015, and that the bank failed to make a timely claim by the one-year anniversary of her mother’s death.
Keough, 34, is best known for her roles in films such as Mad Max: Fury Road, American Honey, and The Lodge. She is also the author of a memoir, The Daughter of Elvis, which is based on the unfinished manuscript that her mother was working on before her death. The memoir is set to be released later this year.
Keough has faced several tragedies in her family in recent years. In July 2020, her brother, Benjamin Keough, died by suicide at the age of 27. In May 2023, she reached a settlement with her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, who had contested her daughter’s will. Keough’s twin half-sisters, Finley and Harper, 15, who are the daughters of Presley and her ex-husband, Michael Lockwood, were named as sub-trustees of the estate. Priscilla Presley reportedly received a $1 million lump sum payment and $400,000 in legal fees.
Despite the legal drama, Keough has maintained a close relationship with her grandmother and her sisters. She has also received support from her husband, whom she married in 2015. The couple met on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road, where Smith-Petersen was a stunt double for Tom Hardy. Keough has described him as her “best friend” and “soulmate” in several social media posts.
