Dabney Coleman, renowned for his iconic role in “9 to 5,” has passed away at the age of 92. The Hollywood legend’s daughter, Quincy Coleman, confirmed that he peacefully took his last breath at his home in Santa Monica, Calif., on Thursday.
In a heartfelt statement, Quincy described her father as someone who lived life with curiosity, generosity, and a humorous spirit that resonated with humanity. She emphasized that Dabney’s legacy would endure eternally through his work and loved ones.
Dabney Coleman’s cause of death remains undisclosed. The Texas native began his entertainment career in the 1960s but achieved widespread recognition in the 1970s with his role as Merle Jeeter on “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.”
“[‘Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman’] was a huge turning point. That was the turning point in my career,” Dabney shared in a 2012 interview with the A.V. Club. His comedic talent and portrayal of negative, caustic characters solidified his reputation.
In 1980, Dabney further showcased his versatility by playing the diabolical Franklin Hart Jr. in “9 to 5.” Alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton, he left an indelible mark on the film industry.
Dabney Coleman is survived by his four children and five grandchildren. His impact as an actor, teacher, and king will continue to resonate in the hearts of fans and colleagues alike. 🌟
